What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial stretch therapy is an assisted stretching that focuses on the muscles connective tissues around the joints. This type of therapy is performed on a treatment table, using stabilization straps to hold limbs in place so the therapist can have better control.

Fascia is a system of connected tissue around your muscles, bones and joints. The capsule that surrounds joints optimizes the mechanical function of the joint and is part of the fascial system. When these parts are restricted it can cause increased muscle tone, strains and tears. By using this type of stretching you can experience twice the benefits as static stretching muscles would give you.  

Fascial stretch therapy can improve the mobility of your nerves and the flexibility of your muscles and fascia. People of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy including, fitness enthusiasts, athletes of any level and the elderly.

Your first treatment will begin with your therapist asking you specific questions and assess the body based on complaints you might have. Each stretch begins with a light traction to the joint to allow for a deeper stretch. This type of therapy is a great choice for those wanting to improve flexibility, recover from training, and for injury prevention. Mobility can often be improved after the first treatment and your therapist will give you exercises to maintain this after your first visit. However, it is recommended that you have more than one session as everyone is different and treatment can vary.
